SIBU, Jan 10: What was supposed to be a happy meeting with relatives, turned tragic for a 41-year-old man from Betong who was killed in a road accident here.
The deceased has been identified as Soffyan Sakka, an oil palm estate worker in Betong.
Sibu district police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, said the victim was here to visit his relatives.
“In the 6.40pm incident yesterday, the deceased was riding a motorcycle along Jalan Tatus Kabang. Upong reaching the Sg Bidut roundabout, he turned left. His machine collided head on with a car carrying five passengers,” he said.
Paramedics from Sibu Hospital pronounced the victim dead on the spot due to serious injuries, he continued.
Stanley added that the 22-year-old driver of the car was detained to assist investigations under Section 112 of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
