Tragic fire claims lives of elderly couple in Kg Pangkalan Lutong

MIRI, Aug 6: A devastating fire destroyed a rented house in Kampung Pangkalan Lutong this morning, resulting in the tragic deaths of an elderly couple.

The remains of the victims, identified as Jaimah Badar, 64, and her husband, Abdullah Nassa, 77, were found charred and embracing each other inside the bathroom by firefighters after the blaze was extinguished.

The fire broke out around 10.30 am when neighbours noticed plumes of smoke coming from the house.

Despite their valiant efforts to rescue the couple, the intense flames made it impossible to enter the building.

A neighbour, Masnah Yakub, 55, sustained a hand injury during the rescue attempt.

Jaimah and Abdullah had been living in the house with their two children aged 28 and 30, and a granddaughter aged 9, for the past six months.

The fire department received the emergency call at 10.55am and arrived at the scene by 11.04am.

Firefighters from Lutong and Lopeng fire stations, led by Henry Jugah, worked tirelessly to control the fire and conduct the rescue operation. — DayakDaily
