Traditional English teahouse near Fort Margherita awaiting JKR certification before opening

KUCHING, May 10: The traditional English teahouse along the Kuching Waterfront is expected to be in operation in September this year.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan said the facilities are ready, but handover is awaiting certification from Public Works Department (JKR).


“It is a standard procedure and this is to ensure the teahouse meets requirements and complies with specifications.

“We look forward to it being in operation,but we have to ensure all the paperwork is complete,” he told reporters after launching the Miss International Malaysia Sarawak event at The Waterfront Hotel here yesterday.

The traditional English teahouse which is located in the vicinity of Fort Margherita and Kampung Boyan is part of the RM24 million beautification project along Kuching Waterfront and was supposed to be in operation in 2022.

The traditional English teahouse is expected to be yet another attraction for local and foreign visitors in Kuching.
