KUCHING, Feb 21: Strict action can be taken against traders found converting the Sarawak Basic Necessities Contribution (SKAS) into cash.
The Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) has warned that those involved risk having their appointment as service providers for SPay Global – SKAS revoked.
“Recipients may also be blacklisted from receiving future assistance,” UKAS stated in a poster shared on its official Facebook page today.
SKAS is a financial aid initiative by the Sarawak government designed to ease the burden of low-income groups affected by rising living costs.
Announced by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly sitting last November, the aid has been distributed in phases since Feb 18.
The Sarawak government has allocated RM450 million for SKAS, targeting 886,288 recipients.
In line with the government’s push for digital services, SKAS is distributed via the SPay Global e-wallet. — DayakDaily
