KUCHING, April 15: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) has successfully signed an agreement with tour agencies in China to bring 450,000 Chinese tourists to visit Malaysia this year.
Its Minister Dato Sri Tiong King Sing in a Facebook post yesterday (April 14) said Tourism Malaysia will also leverage on the momentum by engaging with other prospective Chinese tourism companies and organisations for more similar Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs).
“As for the three outstanding issues raised by travel agencies, namely, easing the visa application process, more flights, and incentive allowances, we will prioritise these matters towards achieving tangible results as soon as possible,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tiong said Motac will actively explore various mechanisms to promote tourism cooperation between Malaysia and Chongqing, such as promoting the bilateral tourism industry players with local governments, offering incentives, and many others.
“In order to provide a clear and comprehensive picture of Malaysia’s tourism landscape for Chinese tourism industry players, I had also formally invited them to organise an familiarisation tour under the guidance of Tourism Malaysia to visit all the various tourist attractions in Malaysia.
“I trust that this tour would equip them with a better understanding of the unique selling points and potential tourism investment projects in the country,” he added.
On April 2 until 11, Tiong led the Motac delegation on a series of insightful and fruitful engagements with the Government of the People’s Republic of China to promote deeper Malaysia-China bilateral cooperation in the tourism and cultural exchange spheres.
The aim was to connect in a mutually beneficial manner with the massive Chinese tourism market by identifying the restrictive barriers to break, including bringing more resources and opportunities for the industry. — DayakDaily
