KUCHING, Nov 2: Batik Air’s successful launch of its inaugural flight between Bintulu and Kuala Lumpur not only expands travel options for Bintulu residents, but is also poised to stimulate economic activities and enhance the local tourism sector in the region.

Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing emphasised that establishing this route involved a complex preparation process and a collaborative effort among various stakeholders.

“I recall the meeting between the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC) and Batik Air on July 30, where we discussed potential routes, including Kuala Lumpur-Bintulu and Johor Bahru-Bintulu.

“Shortly thereafter, Malaysia Airlines encountered issues with its flight schedules and technical delays, raising public concerns about flight availability. The positive response from Batik Air’s leadership was a welcome relief.

“Today, the hard work and commitment of all involved has culminated in this proud achievement,” he stated in a social media post today.

As Bintulu continues to develop as a heavy industry hub, Tiong noted that the demand for flights has surged significantly in recent years.

He expressed satisfaction that Batik Air’s new route has alleviated passenger concerns, especially given the delays in new aircraft deliveries that have affected Malaysia Airlines and led to instability in its flight schedules.

Tiong, who is also the Bintulu MP, extended his gratitude to the Ministry of Transport, Batik Air CEO Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) for their roles in enabling this route to take flight and for benefiting travellers frequently commuting between Bintulu and Kuala Lumpur.

“My ministry will continue to actively engage with domestic and international airlines to expand our network of routes. This commitment aims to provide more travel options for the people of Sarawak, support economic growth, and elevate Sarawak’s presence in international markets,” he affirmed.
