KUCHING, Jan 27: The top posts in Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB)—namely president, deputy presidents (2), and senior vice presidents (2)—will not be contested in the upcoming general assembly this February 14 to 16.

According to its secretary-general Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, this was following the resolutions received from all 82 party branches unanimously calling for the incumbents of these top posts to be retained unopposed.

“Therefore, these five posts were accepted by the supreme council not to be contested,” he said in a press conference after the PBB Supreme Council meeting last night (Jan 26) chaired by party president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, as reported by TVS.

Meanwhile, Nanta said that the posts of vice presidents and below in the party’s supreme council are open for contest.

“If we issue the nomination form in the next two to three days, we can close (the nomination) no later than a week before the general assembly,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said that over 3,200 delegates are expected to attend the PBB Convention at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), which Abang Johari will officiate.

He said delegates will comprise members of the main body, the Women’s wing, the Youth wing, and the newly formed Belia wing, comprising those aged 18 to 28.

The PBB Convention is the accumulation of four delegates’ conferences in the Central Zone in Sibu (Jan 11), Northern Zone in Miri (Jan 18), Southern Zone in Kuching (Jan 19), and Betong Zone (Jan 25) which makes up 82 branches. — DayakDaily
