Tiong wants all divisions including Miri to grow, not just Bintulu and Sibu

BINTULU, Nov 18: Incumbent Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing is not interested in competing with other cities or towns in terms of development but prefers all divisions to grow concurrently.

He believed that Bintulu could take over Miri as the second-largest city/town in Sarawak, but he did not see the point of it.

“It is achievable (for Bintulu) to take over Miri as the second largest city/town in Sarawak. But of course, if there are business and other opportunities in which we can help other divisions, we should help.

“We should not let the other places or divisions (not having any development). I cannot be too selfish (and allow) Bintulu to be developed and leave out other divisions like Sibu.

“I want to try my best as ADUN (State assemblyman) to upgrade the infrastructure of Sibu. But the flood problem, I want to resolve it first,” said Tiong, who is also Dudong assemblyman.

Citing the siltation issue of the Rajang, he said he is now pushing hard for the hydraulic survey to be completed so that dredging may take place soon to resolve the issue of constant flooding in Sibu.

For Bintulu, he said the upgrading of infrastructure is also of top priority, and he is particularly insistent that the road leading to Bintulu Port must be upgraded to be a three-lane carriageway and a flyover to divert traffic more effectively to lessen traffic jams.

Secondly, he hoped to upgrade Bintulu Hospital and, thirdly, enhance Bintulu’s security.

“The police station here, I want to upgrade it by increasing the manpower,” said Tiong.

Tiong, who is also caretaker Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China, said presently, the highest-ranking police officer in Bintulu is a superintendent who will soon be elevated to Officer in Charge of Police District (OCPD).

Once the highest post of police is elevated to OCPD, he said, the Bintulu police station will need to be upgraded, and there will be an increase in the police workforce to about 200 police officers. — DayakDaily
