BINTULU, June 7: The Public Works Department (PWD) must take serious action against any contractor or concession company which have been underperforming for the construction of the Jalan Bakun flyover.

In making this call, Bintulu Member of Parliament Dato Sri Tiong King Sing said he had received many complaints from the local community on problems arising from the delay of the construction works which had not only disrupted people’s road use but also posing safety issues due to the incomplete safety facilities at the site.

“Strict action should be taken against contractors and companies that do not perform the work as prescribed regardless of the ‘special background’ of the company,” he said in a statement today.

It is understood that the construction works at Jalan Bakun has been delayed for more than half a year.

The construction of the flyover was supposed to be completed by September last year, but the works faced constraints due to the Covid-19 pandemic as well as the implementation of various restricted movement orders. — DayakDaily
