KUCHING, Sept 15: Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing is calling for Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa’s support to include Bintulu Hospital’s expansion proposal under the 12th Malaysia Plan’s (RMK12) rolling plan.
Tiong, who is also Federal Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) and Dudong assemblyman said one of the reasons is that the public health situation in Bintulu is relatively unique.
“In addition to the people of Bintulu, the hospital’s services also needs to cover the population from other districts and cities.
“The existing capacity of hospital and its medical equipment are still far from sufficient. Therefore, the relevant plans are urgently needed for rapid implementation,” he said in a statement today.
Earlier today, Tiong had a meeting with Dr Zaliha during her visit to Bintulu Hospital.
He highlighted the need for a hospital in Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP) that deals with emergency industrial accidents, as it could provide urgent treatment when industrial accidents occur, including minimising casualties.
“Bintulu is also a rapidly developing heavy industry town, which attracts the interest of many foreign investors.
“Therefore, safety risks should not be a factor that deters them or makes them hesitant from making their investments,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tiong also requested for Dr Zaliha to include Bintulu Hospital in the pilot project for leasing medical instruments and equipment.
He said leasing, as opposed to purchasing, may effectively prevent hospitals from having to wait when they face equipment shortages.
“In addition to cost-savings, this plan can also handle the demand for instruments and equipment more flexibly.
“Apart from that, I also reported to Dr Zaliha of the need for Bintulu Hospital to add more specialists, such as cosmetic surgeons, cardiologists, neurologists, among others,” he added. — DayakDaily
