KUCHING, July 17: Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing has announced a RM100,000 grant to assist in the development of SMK Durin in Sibu for the purpose of upgrading or building new infrastructure such as an open hall and a covered walkway, with an additional RM100,000 in the event that the initial amount is insufficient.

According to a Facebook post by Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Central Region, Tiong announced the grant in response to SMK Durin principal Puten Gaong’s request for help to develop the school for the students.

“I request that all parties involved, including the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) and the school, send a progress report on the project to the Dudong DUN Service Centre,” he said yesterday at the ‘SMK Durin Year 2022 PIBG General Meeting’ in Sibu.

Meanwhile, Tiong thanked parents, as well as community leaders, especially longhouse chiefs, for attending the PIBG general meeting.

“It is evident from your presence that you are all very concerned about the education of children.

“I do not deny that, when the school organises PIBG meetings, there are a few parents who are unconcerned by not attending, thereby ignoring issues or problems at school, especially those involving their children.

“As parents, we should take the education of our children seriously. Do not place sole responsibility for educating children on the school or teachers; rather, parents must play their respective roles by providing education that begins at home,” he stated.

Tiong, who is also the Dudong assemblyman, further advised parents to collaborate with the school, particularly the teachers, and the PIBG committee in order to discuss important issues, especially those concerning children’s education.

“Do not use social media to sensationalise an issue; instead, use the proper channels by sitting down to discuss the best method or solution,” he asserted. — DayakDaily
