KUCHING, April 19: Leslie Ting, special assistant to Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii urges the local authorities in particular the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) to fix the street lights along 6th to 7th Mile road here.

Ting, who is a member of Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak, in a statement today said the 6th Mile construction viaduct has no street lights and many warning lights were also not bright for road users.

With uneven road surface condition, he believed it is dangerous for vehicles to pass through during night time which could make the road prone to accidents.

“There are 32 street lights along the 6th to 7th Mile road, but only 16 are lit.

“The authorities need to take measures to ensure that the construction section street lights and warning lights are bright, so as to avoid accidents,” he said.

Hence, Ting called on the relevant government departments to be proactive by strengthening supervision and management of public utilities, and not wait for the public to complain before doing their job. — DayakDaily
