MIRI, Nov 17: Fishermen who are eligible for Covid-19 booster shots have been encouraged to go get it to enhance their protection against Covid-19.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting, in making this call, emphasised that booster shots are important to extend the protection of vaccines to keep people safe.

“We must look after ourselves as well as our community and Sarawak,” he told the fishermen during a ceremony to hand over fishing equipment today.

A total of 59 fishermen from Piasau received fishing equipment comprising coolboxes, fishing nets and life jackets from Sarawak government under the Fishermen’s Fishing Equipment Input Assistance (BIPPN).

Ting, who is the Piasau incumbent, emphasised that the assistance for fishermen through the Sarawak Agriculture Department demonstrated the Sarawak government’s concerns for the livelihood of the fishing community.

“The past nearly two years have been a tough time for the fishing community as well as many other sectors impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic since March 2020.

“The Sarawak government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has always been with the people,” he said.

He pointed out that the State government had made notable efforts to reduce the burden on people through rolling out seven packages of Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) which has totalled RM5.34 billion to date.

“Many forms of assistance including cash payments were disbursed to the people to help them through the tough time,” he added. — DayakDaily
