KUCHING, March 23: Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting has tested positive for Covid-19.
In a social media post yesterday (March 22), Ting said he had contracted Covid-19 for the first time since the pandemic began.
He said he had been performing self-tests for the past 10 days and the results had been negative until he went for his medical checkup.
“This morning, I was in Normah Medical Specialist Centre for my routine medical checkup and I thought I would do a full PCR test for my own comfort as I was in close contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19 last night (March 21).
“The PCR test was done (via drive-thru at Normah) at 11.25am. At 2.28pm, I was informed by my doctor through a message: ‘Your PCR test is positive. The CT value is low, indicating a recent infection and you are still infectious’.
“At 3.58pm, a nurse from the hospital called me and also informed me of my PCR test result,” he said.
Ting, who is also Piasau assemblyman, said his MySejahtera status had since then been updated to a ‘Confirmed Case – CAT 2a’ in red.
In terms of symptoms, he said he was only experiencing some mild symptoms such as sore throat and some coughing.
He extended his apologies to those he had come into contact with in the last few days.
“Indeed I do feel terribly bad and I wish to offer my sincere apologies to all my dear friends, for putting them at risk of being infected by me and for any inconveniences that I may have caused. May God bless you all,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Ting said he would be undergoing his seven-day quarantine in Kuching. — Dayakdaily
