MIRI, March 22: Promoting active lifestyles for good health is not something just for adults. An active lifestyle is best nurtured from young.

To create greater awareness that children are also capable of taking up the fitness challenge and compete among themselves in outdoor sports, Saiful One Fitness United (S1FU) is putting together its 4th year of S1FU Kid’s Obstacle Challenge Race (KOCR 4.0).

Obstacle race is an event combining regular running with obstacles along the way.

The obstacles are meant to challenge the runner’s agility, body coordination, problem-solving skills and so forth. According to S1FU’s founder Coach Saifulbahri, “KOCR is built based on challenging yet child-friendly obstacles to encourage the child’s confidence.

ā€œAn obstacle of walking through a wooden plank would test the children’s balancing ability, while overcoming a tangled web of string tests the children’s eye-body coordination skill”, he explained.

KOCR 4.0 will be held on March 30 at Miri General Hospitalā€™s quarters ground. Flag-off time is 7:30am.

The event is open for those aged 5 to 12 years. There will be three age groups; age 5-6 years, age 7-9 years and those age 10-2 years. Prizes are available for the Top 3 male and female runners of each age group.

In the past years, the KOCR event successfully gathered enthusiastic participation from parents and children alike. The number of participants was up to 80 children. This year, the event is jointly organised by S1FU with Columbia Kids Club (CKC), Kelab Sepitar Sejahtera (KSS) and Pasukan Bomba & Penyelamat Miri.

The organisers are anticipating up to 150 children to show up. It will be a fun-filled day with a fire truck exhibition and demonstration by Bomba. There will be food stalls, too.

Registration for KOCR 4.0 is open until March 29, and those interested can register online at http://bit.do/s1fukocr, manual registration at Columbia Asia Hospital Miri or call S1FU admin at 016-5777565.

Registration fee is RM45/pax, where the runner is entitled to a finisher T-shirt, a medal and a goody bag. Don’t miss out this fun event to conclude your child’s school break. ā€” DayakDaily
