KUCHING, Aug 31: A timber lorry driver was killed after his vehicle skidded and plunged into a ravine along Jalan Kem Sungai Pila, Kapit, on Friday (Aug 29).
According to TVS, Kapit police chief DSP Rohana Nanu stated that preliminary investigations revealed the accident occurred at around 2.30pm when the victim was descending a hill along a narrow, single-lane road.
She said the incident was discovered by a logging company manager who was conducting a patrol in the area and noticed a truck in a ravine at the scene.
“Upon inspection at the scene, the complainant found the victim still inside the truck.
“The victim, identified as Azmie Erney Alang, 36, from Limbang, was later retrieved from the vehicle by several camp workers before being pronounced dead by a medical officer from Kapit Hospital,” she said when contacted.
She added that the victim’s body has been transferred to the Kapit Hospital mortuary for further action.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
