SIBU, Feb 7: The Sibu Disaster Management Committee has decided to enforce a stricter Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in Sibu Jaya due to the high number of Covid-19 cases in the locality.

The SOP which has been approved by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), is for two weeks from Feb 9 to 23.

Among them include only two persons allowed per car; only businesses dealing with food, pharmacies, clinics and
petrol stations allowed to operate; all schools including those with exam classes to be closed; all social gatherings are not allowed except for funerals, Chinese New Year and Chap Goh Mei, with reference to their specific terms and conditions under the SOP.

On Jan 29, SDMC had decided that this year’s Chinese New Year celebration is only allowed to be celebrated on the first day of Chinese New Year with visits limited to immediate family members and only a maximum of 20 people at a time while only 20 persons are allowed for the reunion dinner in a house and not at a hotels

As for funerals, only 30 persons who are immediate family members are allowed at one time, subject to the size of the premises (private home, longhouse or funeral parlour), taking the 1-metre physical distancing requirement into consideration. — DayakDaily
