KUCHING, Nov 22: The upgrade of Nanga Atoi health clinic to a Type 6 health clinic with quarters will be proposed under the Rancangan Malaysia Ketiga Belas (RMK-13), whereas the consultation room at Nanga Budu health clinic was successfully upgraded in 2021.

This was according to Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government (Public Health and Housing) Michael Tiang Ming Tee who responded to Krian assemblyman Friday Belik in today’s question and answer (Q&A) session of the Third Session of the First Term of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting at the DUN complex here.

Belik raised the question whether the State government will upgrade the existing health and medical facilities, as well as the staff housing at the Nanga Budu and Nanga Atoi health clinics.

“The Sarawak State Health Department is constantly monitoring the need to upgrade health facilities in Sarawak.

“The Sarawak State Health Department has successfully upgraded the consultation room at Nanga Budu health clinic in 2021.

“And the planning for the upgrading of Nanga Atoi health clinic to a Type 6 health clinic with quarters will be proposed under the RMK-13,” Tiang said.

He went on to say that regarding the improvement of medical services, a medical officer was stationed at the Nanga Budu health clinic and another at the Nanga Atoi health clinic in March and August 2022 respectively.

He added that the placement has resulted in the improvement of existing programmes such as infectious and noninfectious disease screening programmes, community programmes, and screening, follow-up treatment, referrals to specialist hospitals, and medication list.

Belik also inquired about the average number of patients at the Nanga Budu and Nanga Atoi health clinics, as well as the types of clinics for the Nanga Budu and Nanga Atoi health clinics.

In response to Belik’s two supplementary questions, Tiang stated, “The average number of patients per day at the Nanga Budu health clinic is 19 and at the Nanga Atoi health clinic it is 13.

“Both clinics are classified as Type 7, which means they serve fewer than 50 patients per day,” he noted. — DayakDaily
