SIBU, Dec 19: Three workers sustained injuries following a minor explosion and fire at a factory on Jalan Then Kung Suk today.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) reported that a team of firefighters from the Sibu Central Station responded to an emergency call at 11.29am.
According to statements from factory workers, the fire originated during electrical work, leading to sparks and a small explosion.
The incident resulted in damage to a section of the building, as well as the destruction of a set of welding tools and a forklift.
Prior to the firefighters’ arrival, the factory owners and several workers successfully extinguished the fire using seven units of fire extinguishers.
Following this, the Bomba team conducted an inspection to ensure there were no remaining sources of ignition that could trigger another fire or explosion in the affected building.
Injured workers were immediately transported to a nearby clinic for treatment.
Investigations into the cause of the incident and an assessment of the overall losses are still underway. — DayakDaily
