KUCHING, June 28: Three police personnel including an assistant superintendant of police (ASP) were arrested along with 152 individuals for taking drugs during a recent police raid at an entertainment centre in Jalan Sungai Padungan, here last Sunday.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said that the three officers, aged between 45 and 49, are currently under investigation for violating Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952.
Initial urine screenings have yielded positive results for methamphetamine and amphetamine-type drugs.
“Those who tested positive for drugs ranged from 19 to 54-years-old and are being investigated under the same section.
“Beside a senior police officer with the rank of ASP, the other two officers were a sergeant and a corporal,” he told a press conference at the police headquarters here, today.
In the raid, Mohd Azman said five men and two women with one of them a foreigner, aged between 26 and 42-years-old, were apprehended under Section 39B ADB 1952.
“Authorities discovered 12 juice packets containing a powder mix suspected to be drugs during the inspection,” he disclosed.
Additionally, a 30-year-old local man, believed to be a drug supplier at the entertainment centre, was taken into custody.
“A total of 45 juice packets containing suspected Ecstasy powder, 63 pills suspected to be Ecstasy, and clear lumps suspected to be ketamine were seized from him,” Mohd Azman added.
The total value of the confiscated drugs amounted to RM197,458, and the police also seized items estimated to be worth RM1.2 million.
Among the seized items were four vehicles, including a Land Rover, a Lexus, a BMW X5, and a Toyota Camry, as well as various items of jewellery including five gold rings, a gold bracelet, a gold chain, and a pair of gold earrings.
Additionally, three branded handbags, five watches including a Rolex, three Apple watches, and one Huawei watch, along with RM30,650 in cash and Singapore dollars were seized during the operation. — DayakDaily
