Three new Covid-19 clusters surface in Kuching

KUCHING, Aug 9: Three new community clusters were identified in the district today, dubbed the Taman Yen Yen Cluster, Crown Mas Cluster and Lorong Teruntum Cluster respectively.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today said the Taman Yen Yen Cluster involved a number of families living in Taman Yen Yen in Matang.

“A total of 72 individuals were screened, where 41 of them were found positive for Covid-19, including the index case, while 31 other individuals tested negative,” the committee said.


The Crown Mas Cluster involved workers from a business premises located in Lorong Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim, along Jalan Pending.

A total of 18 individuals were screened and 12 of them, including the index case, were found positive for the virus, the test results for six others returned negative.

Meanwhile, a total of 10 individuals, including the index case, were found positive in the Lorong Teruntum Cluster, after 63 individuals were screened.

According to SDMC, seven new cases were also reported from the cluster, while 53 others are still awaiting lab test results.

“All of the positive cases detected from all three new clusters were brought to Sarawak General Hospital and a quarantine and low-risk patient treatment centre (PKRC) in the district, for further treatment and isolation,” it said. — DayakDaily
