KUCHING, June 21: Sarawak recorded three new Covid-19 cases today, all in Bintulu.
According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement, the new cases bring the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak to 569 cases.
Case 567 and 568 are family members and close contacts of case 566, comprising the wife and child of the case.
Thus, the number of Covid-19 patients linked to the Kidurong cluster has risen to eight people.
SDMC also disclosed that the third positive case reported today involved a 29-year-old man who returned to Sarawak recently after working in Mexico since February 2020.
The man arrived in Malaysia on June 10 following a flight from Mexico to Japan on June 9.
He was tested with a rapid test kit (RTK) antigen test at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), which had shown negative results for Covid-19. He was also quarantined at a hotel.
The man arrived in Bintulu on June 14 and was taken to a hotel there to resume his quarantine. The result of his swab test which was taken on June 20 was positive.
Meanwhile, SDMC revealed there were 18 new person-under-investigation (PUI) case while four PUI are awaiting laboratory results.
The committee also disclosed there were 220 persons who returned to Sarawak today and classified as persons-under-surveillance (PUS).
With this, there are currently 866 PUS undergoing quarantine at selected respective hotels in Sarawak.
A total of 16,454 PUS have completed their 14-day quarantine as of today. — DayakDaily
