MIRI, Aug 26:  Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will contest in all 82 seats in the upcoming Sarawak Election which must be called by July 2021.

GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said in no uncertain term that the state ruling coalition will contest in all the state seats.

“As far as Sarawak is concerned, GPS is the dominant party.  GPS will contest in all seats – 82 seats,” said Abang Johari in a press conference during the Launch of Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code at a leading hotel here today.

He also disclosed that there is already an understanding been reached between parties within Perikatan Nasional (PN).

“Not yet election, wait for the state election whether he (Ali) is going to stand under Bersatu (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia) or what.  But we have certain understanding,” said Abang Johari

Abang Johari who is also the chief minister said this when asked by the media of his stance with regards to Krian which is now under Ali Biju, who has recently joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

Krian is a seat traditionally allocated to Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), a component party of GPS.  However, Ali has been able to win the seat as Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidate in 2016.

After the Sheraton Move, Ali who is supporter of former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, followed Azmin to join Bersatu recently.

As Bersatu is part of the national coalition of Perikatan Nasional, the question of who will contest in Krian has become an issue especially now that PDP made a strong stance of  laying claim on the seat.— DayakDaily
