KUCHING, Aug 15: Dirty electric fans are causing poor and inadequate airflow around Bandar Riyal Market in Kota Samarahan.

Hence, special assistant to Bandar Kuching MP, Leslie Ting, is urging the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council to get the problem fixed promptly.

“The fan blades and covers are heavily covered in dust and dirt. Even though the fans are functioning, there is no wind; thus, restricted air circulation around the market,” he said in a press release today.

“According to the traders, these fans were never once cleaned after they were installed at the market, which was years ago.”

Ting claimed he had lodged complaints with the council more than once and even brought up the issue through the media.

“But no action has been taken to rectify the situation to date,” he said.

“The traders have had to endure the uncomfortable environment to do their businesses all this while.”

He hoped the council would look into the matter seriously and send people to clean up and service the fans so as to provide a more comfortable environment for traders, shoppers and visitors.

“Moreover, we are also experiencing hot weather right now,” he added.

Ting said the traders also hoped the council would employ guards to look after the market at night as there had been instances of theft. — DayakDaily
