KUCHING, Aug 11: A Thai woman residing in Malaysia has been fined RM3,000 or four months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court for her involvement in prostitution activities.
Miss Nongnapas, 34, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 372B of the Penal Code, which was read in the presence of Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.
The charge stated that she engaged in the activity at a budget hotel on Ban Hock Street at around 5pm on Aug 1.
If found guilty, the woman could face imprisonment for up to one year, a fine, or both penalties combined.
The incident unfolded when a police officer, who was undercover, received a message from an informant about prostitution activities being conducted at a budget hotel.
Subsequently, a raid was carried out, leading to the arrest of the accused.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that the accused had indeed been conducting prostitution activities within one of the hotel rooms. Additionally, there was evidence of negotiations between the accused and the undercover officer regarding a payment of RM150.
The prosecution of the case was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin, while the accused did not have legal representation. — DayakDaily
