KUCHING, Jan 24: The Amateur Bowling Association of Sarawak (ABAS) is set to host the “Sarawak Hornbill Team Cup 2025” at Megalanes Sarawak, Jalan Batu Kawa, from February 11 to 16.
Sarawak Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED), Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, announced that the event marks the fourth edition of the Hornbill Team Cup, which has become one of Southeast Asia’s most prestigious ten-pin bowling tournaments.
The tournament is officially sanctioned by the Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) and the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC), ensuring its credibility and adherence to international competition standards.
“Hosting international events in Sarawak will boost both the domestic tourism sector and sports tourism, generating economic activity and benefiting local businesses, including hotels and restaurants.
“These events will also showcase Sarawak’s unique culture and hospitality, while giving local athletes valuable exposure to international competition, enhancing their skills and performance,” Abdul Karim said during a press conference at the Baitul Makmur II building today.
The event will see over 200 bowlers compete for a total prize pool of RM60,250, along with trophies and medals.
Abdul Karim, who is also the Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP), also announced Sarawak’s upcoming role as the host for the 2026 International Bowling Federation (IBF) World Youth Ten Pin Bowling Championship, a globally recognized tournament that will attract participants from around the world.
“This will be another proud achievement for our local tenpin bowling community and will undoubtedly bring global recognition to Sarawak as a world-class venue for bowling,” he added. – DayakDaily
