KUCHING, June 30: The setting up of a temporary transit centre for the homeless (TTG) in Kuching will be completed in four months, says Sarawak Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.
The premises are being renovated from an old building at Jalan P. Ramlee.
āNow, we are using the Community Social Support Centre (CSSC) first,ā she said in her speech at the closing ceremony of the Women Leadership Training Camp for the Federation of Chinese Association (FCA) Women Section held at Aeroville Mall here today.
Fatimah further mentioned that the first TTG was set up in Sibu on Jan 28 last year, which provides people experiencing homelessness with food, accommodation, clothing, counselling services, and skills training such as weaving, fertigation, car washing, and others.
āWe also plan to do one (TTG) and CSSC in Bintulu. Another TTG in Miri is also coming up,ā she added.
Following this, she has suggested the FCA Women’s Section look into people experiencing homelessness as one of their focus areas in giving back to society and enhancing their visibility.
Also present were FCA president Dato Richard Wee; Ministry of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK) permanent secretary Noriah Ahmad; FCA executive advisor Micheal Teo; and FCA Women Section chair lady Lee Swee Hiong. ā DayakDaily
