KUCHING, Oct 18: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) is organising the second edition of the MBKS Kuching Car-Free Morning this Saturday (Oct 21), with the flag-off fun walk beginning at 7.35am.

According to a MBKS press release, MBKS has decided to expand the route from Jalan Boulevard Canna Lily to Jalan Padungan and Jalan Tan Sri Datuk William Tan with a distance of 3.2km.

“The closure of one lane for the above-mentioned routes will start at 6am until 10am.”

Among the activities that will be held during the 2nd Kuching Car-Free Morning include a Senamrobik/Zumba exercise session at MBKS Square at 7am, a fun walk at MBKS Boulevard at 7.35am and a fishing competition at Kuching Park Pond, to be held from 7.30am to 8.30am.

MBKS emphasised that Car-Free Day is a global initiative that encourages individuals to leave their cars at home and explore alternative modes of transportation.

“By doing so, we can reduce traffic congestion, air pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions, which are all significant challenges facing our cities today,” it said.

“We have invested in new bike lanes, improved public transportation services, and launched campaigns to promote walking and cycling. But there is still much more that we can do.

“We must continue to invest in sustainable urban mobility infrastructure, such as pedestrianised zones and bike lanes, and work with our partners to provide safe and accessible public transportation for all residents.” — DayakDaily
