Temporary closure of Sibu Central Market extended another nine days

KUCHING, Feb 18: The temporary closure of Sibu Central Market has been extended for another nine days from Feb 20 to 28.

This is a new announcement released by Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) today, following the previous closure notice of the market until Feb 19.

“Guided and acting upon the directive issued by Sibu Divisional Health Officer, SMC wish to convey the decision pertaining to the extension period of the Sibu Central Market temporary closure for another nine days until Feb 28 (Sunday).


“This is to comply with the directive issued under Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1998 in our joint effort to curb the spread of Covid-19,” said the Council in a press statement today.

SMC thus urged for the understanding and cooperation of all the operators at the market in strictly abiding to the temporary closure notice to reduce the infection risk of Covid-19.

Adding on, it said all hawkers, stall operators, and the general public who have developed any Covid-19 symptoms or had close contact with any positive patients to undergo the Covid-19 swab tests immediately.

“Together we can assist to break or stop the chain of infection and overcome the challenging situation in Sibu.
