KUCHING, Aug 11: Telang Usan assemblyman Datuk Dennis Ngau has voiced his full support for the Baram DeepTech Energy Programme, while at the same time, he expressed concerns over attempts to undermine the project by those envious of it.

For the time being, he has yet to communicate with his constituents due to the uncertainty of the project prior to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s endorsement of it today at the Ministry of Energy and Environment Sustainability’s Public-Industry Engagement Day and the official launch of Sarawak’s Energy Transition Policy (SET-P) held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching.

The event also saw project owner Planet QEOS exchanging Heads of Agreement worth RM2.32 billion with five strategic partners of the Baram DeepTech Energy Programme, with Abang Johari being the witness.

Following Abang Johari’s blessings over the project, Dennis said he would raise awareness of the project among the Telang Usan community.

“I can assure you our people will be very, very happy, but at the same time, we are also prepared for those who are jealous of this kind of project and will try to derail it.

“I believe 99 per cent of the people of Telang Usan will give their support,” said Dennis when contacted.

He said the capital-intensive project is set to transform Telang Usan into a bustling development node while maintaining environmental sustainability.

Dennis said he had been briefed about the project and was in favour of it, as the project would deliver benefits such as job and business opportunities.

“I understand the project involves an integration of solar energy production and farming, including livestock and poultry farming. There will also be housing provided to cater for those working in the plant, as well as training for local youth and those well educated to manage the plant, meaning that there will also be a training school.

“It is a project that involves huge capital investment. The initiative will provide opportunities for everyone—from university graduates to local farmers and attract those well-educated locals to return to their hometown. There is an opportunity for everyone,“ said Dennis. — DayakDaily
