KUCHING, Nov 29: The Tekun Mobilepreneur programme has created 2,114 Warong Riders up to date.
Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the delivery rider programme is one of the latest initiatives by Tekun and SME Corporation to stimulate business activities for the people.
“To date, the ministry had managed to produce 2,114 riders under Tekun Mobilepreneur programme while under SME Corp Micro Connector programme, the ministry targets to have 5,000 Warong Riders.
“I believe opportunities come in many forms. We noticed that demand for delivery riders services had increased because of the movement restrictions order.
“This is an opportunity that the people can consider especially those who lost their jobs because of Covid-19,” he said, urging those who are interested and in need of a job amidst the pandemic to join the programme and benefit from it.
Meanwhile, he also handed some RM1 million total worth of Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants to 27 organisations in Santubong in a simple ceremony at Penview Convention Centre Demak yesterday.
Wan Junaidi, who is also Santubong Member of Parliament (MP) said among the recipients of the RM854,600 worth of grants include schools, suraus, charity organisations, JKKs (village development and security committees) and NGOs (non-governmental organisations) in his constituency.
The grants were for organising activities, implementing projects towards improving the wellbeing of the community.
A special relief fund of RM17,000 was also presented to seven families who are victims of a recent fire incident in Bintawa.
