KUCHING, Feb 8: Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (Tegas), through its Tegas Digital Village and Digital Innovation Hub, is partnering with Sunway Innovation Labs (iLabs) at Sunway University (iLabs Foundry) for the 2023 LaunchX programme.

The programme is a 3+2 months university startup accelerator programme that turns validated ideas into fundable startups.

According to a press release issued by Tegas, LaunchX is an equity-free, no-strings-attached programme for budding entrepreneurs to help them grow and succeed.

“The programme will run from March to August 2023 and is open to all university student entrepreneurs in Malaysia, particularly those with a validated problem-solution fit, a prototype and alignment to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

“Through LaunchX, selected participants will receive exclusive startup benefits worth up to RM100,000, as well as investment opportunities, market access, and mentorships from key industry leaders and venture capitalists, among other things,” Tegas said in the press release.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh, who is also Tegas chairman, in the press statement said, “We are thrilled to partner with Sunway iLabs, the innovation arm of Sunway University and Sunway Group, for the 2023 LaunchX programme.

“Last year, in conjunction with the Borneo Corporate Innovation Summit held at Tegas Digital Village, Tegas and Sunway Education Group have entered a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to accelerate the growth of local startups in Sarawak, in line with the Sarawak Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“As part of our partnership with Sunway, I am pleased to announce that the flights and accommodation for Sarawakian students selected for LaunchX will be covered by Tegas.”

He also encouraged local universities to spread the word about the programme to their students, and he hopes to see more Sarawakians participate in the accelerator programme.

“LaunchX was first introduced as a pilot programme in 2022. The programme helped students to develop their business ideas and transform them into fully-functional business models which ensured product-market fit and allowed teams a real opportunity to form their own company.

“The programme has produced five alumni namely, Greenbox, Kita, Homies, Opack, and Hypocollect.
