Teen sentenced to 12 months’ good behavior bond for illegal shotgun possession

KUCHING, Sept 28: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a 19-year-old teenager to a bond of good behavior of 12 months for illegally possessing a shotgun.

The accused was charged with illegally possessing a shotgun in Tabuan Dayak, at about 10pm on June 26, 2021 after a recorded video of him and a friend aged 25 and both holding shotguns, had gone viral on social media.


The accused and his friend were arrested by a police taskforce on July 5.

The 19-year-old was charged at the Magistrate’s Court here today where he pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960, which carries a maximum imprisonment of seven years or maximum fine of RM10,000 or both, upon conviction.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar sentenced the accused after hearing the social report on the accused by the welfare department.

Upon investigation by the police, it was revealed that the former employer of the accused recorded the video and the accused pointed the gun at his former employer out of personal conflict with his former employer.

Prosecuting Officer Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
