KUCHING, Apr 22: A 14-year-old boy is feared to have drowned while bathing in a river at Kampung Segubang Bau this afternoon prompting a search-and-rescue operation.
The incident was reported at about 4pm, with firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Bau station dispatched to the scene. The team arrived at the location at approximately 4.16pm.
According to operations commander PBK I Awang Saifull Awang Nusi, the victim, identified as Bun Boo Kit, was part of a group of five teenagers who had gone to bathe in the river earlier.
“The boy was reported missing while bathing with four friends before he was believed to have drowned,” he said in a statement today.
Rescuers are conducting a surface water search at the last known location where the victim was seen, while personnel are also carrying out free diving in the surrounding area.
As of press time, the victim has yet to be found and search operations are ongoing. — DayakDaily
