KUCHING, July 29: An 18-year-old youth, who was severely beaten in an assault at Jalan Tun Jugah at 1am today, has died from his injuries at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

Acting Kuching District police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said two men, aged 43 and 50, have been arrested to assist in the investigation into the death of the teenage boy.

“The case has been classified as murder after the victim died in the hospital. An autopsy has been scheduled tomorrow (July 30).

“It is believed that the (assault) case stems from the victim’s love relationship,” he said in a statement today.

Merbin said that police received a report on the attack at Jalan Tun Jugah at 1am today where the teenage victim was subsequently admitted to SGH for further treatment after suffering severe injuries.

A police team from the D9 Criminal Investigation Branch Kuching then arrested the suspects, who have been brought before the Magistrate’s Court for a remand application.

“A police remand has been approved for seven days until Aug 5 to assist in the investigation.

“The case will be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code which provides a death penalty, if convicted,” he explained.

As this case is still under investigation, Merbin reminded the public not to take any action that goes beyond the law and encouraged the public and eyewitnesses to contact the nearest police station to assist in the investigation if they have any information regarding the case. — DayakDaily
