KUCHING, Nov 14: Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada highlighted local concern over the non-progress of development for Tebedu Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS).
According to Dr Simon, he was briefed by relevant agencies in 2022, that a sum of RM100 million was allocated to redevelop Tebedu ICQS.
“As of today, we have not been seeing any signs or any changes happening in and around the ICQS. Sarawak in general and Tebedu in particular needs a secure border to safeguard our sovereignty and security,” he said when debating Sarawak Budget 2025 during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting here today.
He said that Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Jan 20, 2023 announced and promised a RM1 billion allocation to upgrade Sarawak and Sabah borders.
He further pointed out that during a press conference held after chairing the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Implementation Action Council Meeting, the Prime Minister said that they have decided to give additional allocation for ICQS to improve security and increase capability, as well as other infrastructure such as roads in order to not be seen as obsolete.
“I hope the Federal Government will not be undergoing a state of ‘Dimentia’ (dementia) or ‘Pura-Pura Lupa’ (pretend to forget),” he added. — DayakDaily
