KUCHING, July 17: Teachers and operators of preschools, kindergartens and schools in Sarawak already operating will soon be screened for Covid-19.

This was disclosed by State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas during the Covid-19 updates press conference today, adding that this was for Sarawak to be ahead of the Covid-19 virus spread.

“SDMC is always trying to be ahead of the (Covid-19) virus, so we are already planning with JKNS on doing swab tests covering sensitive areas such as old folks’ homes at some places,” he added.

He also assured that all severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) and influenza-like illness (ILI) cases in hospitals around Sarawak are being tested for the possibilities of Covid-19 infections.

There was also advice from SDMC to clinics and medical centres in the state to test patients with coughs, asthma or any other respiratory problems for the virus to be way ahead of its transmission.

With several locally-transmitted cases in Kuching for the past two days, Uggah said that the Covid-19 virus was already in Kuching and Sarawak.

Thus, he further urged the public to always wear face masks and practice social distancing whenever going outdoors. —DayakDaily
