Teacher claims trial to two counts of statutory rape

The accused shields his face from reporters.

KUCHING: A primary school teacher claimed trial to two counts of statutory rape in the Sessions Court here today.

The 51-year-old accused Mohaini Bojeng, pleaded not guilty to raping the 14-year-old Form Two female student.

He was denied bail and Judge Dayang Ellyn Abang Ahmad ordered the accused to be further detained in prison.


The accused was also told to make application for variation of bail before Judge Timothy Finlayson Joel who will preside over the case.

The accused was charged with raping the girl inside a car in a parking lot behind a supermarket in Siburan sometime between 12.30pm and 2pm in August this year.

He allegedly repeated the offence on Sept 14 this year at about 11.40am at the same secluded area.

The accused was picked up from his house in Tapah, Serian following a police report lodged by the victim’s mother.

The accused who had known the victim since she was in Primary Six at a school in Siburan and was known to her parents, was also apparently her adoptive father.

The case is being tried under Section 376 of the Penal Code for statutory rape which provides for caning upon conviction and a maximum jail time of 30 years.

Hani Iryani Bonny represented the accused while DPP Haresh Prakash prosecuted.
