KUCHING, Feb 1: Lepau Restaurant at Jalan Ban Hock here is where you can savour a variety of authentic Orang Ulu and Dayak dishes.
More than just iconic Sarawak food, it also serves an original Sarawak ethnic dining experience with its beautiful indoor and outdoor ambience, homey atmosphere, and melodious sape music.
“Lepau” which means “hut” in the Kayan language, has been operating since 2014. In 2018, it received the Best Innovative Ethnic Restaurant Award at the 20th Malaysia Tourism Awards.
Some of their must-try signature dishes are Tempoyak Anchovies (anchovies stir-fried with fermented durian), Terung Asam Fish (Gravy), Stir Fried Kantan with Mixed Chillies, Spicy Bunga Kantan Fried (served with a side of Pansuh Chicken), Orang Ulu Red Chilli Chicken, and Daun Ubi Goreng (stir-fried pounded tapioca leaves).
Don’t forget to pair your meal with their Purple Bario Rice wrapped in Itun Sip, which is a traditional way of serving rice to preserve the freshness of the rice.
At Lepau, the waiting time for walk-ins is between 30 to 40 minutes. So, early reservation is always recommended as it is always packed with hungry customers! — DayakDaily
