KUCHING, Oct 18: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) is prepared to defend all eight state seats it contests under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the next Sarawak election but the final decision on candidates rests with the coalition’s top leadership.

PDP deputy president Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, who is also Tasik Biru assemblyman and Sarawak Deputy Minister of Transport (Rivers and Seas), affirmed that the party remained committed to defending its existing seats, while leaving the selection of candidates, including whether to retain incumbents or field new faces, to GPS leadership.

“We are not seasonal politicians. Once elected as representatives, we continue working until the end of our term. So, PDP is ready to defend the eight seats it contests under GPS,” he told reporters after officiating the Sarawak Academy Fire Trail (SAFT) Run 2026 at the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Academy Sarawak Region in Bau today, according to TVS.

He clarified that PDP could propose names for consideration, but the final decision on who would represent GPS in the respective constituencies rested with the coalition’s top leadership.

The Tasik Biru assemblyman also left the decision on whether he would contest Tasik Biru in the next State election to GPS leadership.

He reiterated that PDP’s immediate focus was on safeguarding the interests of communities in the areas it represented, including the Chinese, Iban, Orang Ulu and Bidayuh communities.

For Tasik Biru, Henry highlighted the need to continue development efforts under the Greater Bau development plan, which is planned through 2030. —DayakDaily
