KUCHING, June 30: More focus will be placed on increasing tourism and socio-economic activities in Bau, says Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.
Henry, who is Tasik Biru assemblyman, said following a Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) meeting held recently, all assemblypersons involved are allocated a certain amount apart from the RM1.5 billion allocated to GKCDA.
“So we did a few rounds on the ground to get to know what the rakyat wants, but we will concentrate on socio-economic activities and the tourism sector,” he told reporters when met at a Gawai open house programme at Sri Singai Hall in Kampung Sudoh today.
He said infrastructure-wise, in Bau and Tasik Biru, most of the areas are well-connected through infrastructure projects implemented via Rural Transformation Projects (RTPs).
“So we don’t really need major projects in our area. You cannot keep building roads without any economic activities required to uplift people’s living standards.
“The road is to provide convenience for them to improve their socio-economic and tourism activities,” he added.
Meanwhile, on internet connectivity in Bau, Henry said certain areas still have connectivity problems due to the mountainous terrain.
During the programme, Henry also handed over RM1.06 million worth of Minor Rural Project (MRP) allocations to 50 recipients in Bau. — DayakDaily
