SERIAN, June 15: One of the two Indonesians who escaped from the lock-up of Tapah police station on June 12 was nabbed at around 9am today.
According to Sarawak police chief CP Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri, the suspect, Kelvin, 21 was nabbed about one kilometre away at a fishing pond located at Mile 22, Kuching Serian Road.
He is being detained at Tapah police station.
His accomplice, Bony, 31 is still at large and Mohd Azman said the police will intensify efforts to arrest him.
Speaking at a press conference at Tapah police station, the police chief said the search will continue around a five kilometre radius and be carried out around-the-clock until the remaining escapee is found.
“For today’s operation ‘Ops Kesan’, 154 police personnel, including aK9 unit, General Operation Force and Fire and Rescue Department joined the operation,” he said.
On the condition of Kelvin at the time of arrest, he said he showed signs of weakness due to hunger and has scratches on his legs and body and has undergone a medical checkup, adding that he did not resist the arrest.
Asked if Kelvin will be transferred to Prison headquarters, Mohd Azman replied that he will look into the situation.
Mohd Azam also said that they will be charged under Section 661 of the Immigration Act and Section 224 of the Penal Code for escaping.
At the press conference were also Deputy Sarawak police chief DCP Datuk Mancha Ata and Padawan police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad. — DayakDaily
