KUCHING, April 1: Some 31 councillors serving with Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) today took their oath of office for a three-year term, from 2023 to 2025.
Of the total, 19 were new faces while the remaining were the old guards.
The swearing-in ceremony at MPP office today was led by the new chairman, Tan Kai, who will be taking over from outgoing chairman Lo Khere Chiang.
The ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government.
In his swearing in speech, Tan shared his vision to continue to upgrade tourists spots to make MPP the most attractive destination for tourism in the city, and to improve infrastructure in the area to become conducive for residents and businesses.
“I want to emphasise ‘zero distance’ between MPP and the residents, and to work with other government agencies,” he said.
Later, Tan also warned councillors not to get involved in corruption and to help fight the menace.
He said he wanted to ensure that MPP was in line with the regional government’s initiatives of the Post-Covid Development Plan towards 2030 and to meet the Greater Kuching Development Plan. — DayakDaily
