MIRI, March 30: Tamu Baru Desa Senadin will be a permanent place to trade for both licensed and unlicensed street hawkers in the vicinity.

Scheduled for completion on May 10 this year, the tamu will be able to accommodate 28 hawkers who are currently operating in the Desa Senadin area.

The project which costs RM500,000 is funded via Senadin assemblyman Datuk Lee Kim Shin’s Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) allocation for the year 2020.

“The project is one month ahead of schedule,” said Lee who is also the Minister of Transport.

Currently, construction work is 95 per cent completed, ahead of the scheduled 70 per cent.

There will be empty spaces for future extension to accommodate six more stalls.

Lee when met after visiting the site in Desa Senadin today also suggested Miri City Council carry out an in-depth study on licensed and unlicensed hawkers.

“This study is important, so that we can provide our street hawkers a proper place for them to do trading,” he pointed out.

Lee also revealed his plan to create a decentralized hawkers centre in the northern part of the city.

He believed the decentralization could help to reduce congestion in the town area. — DayakDaily
