SELANGAU, Sept 4: The Sarawak government has been urged to expedite the construction of the RM7.9 million Selangau Sports Complex.

Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang said the project has been handed over to the contractor on Aug 5, 2020 and was supposed to be completed on June 4, 2022.

However, the contractor withdrew from the project after the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021.

“At the moment, the construction of the Selangau Sports Complex is still delayed and no construction work has been done on the site.

“The Selangau Sports Complex is the only sports facility in Selangau District and is eagerly awaited by local residents to hold sporting events.

“As the elected representative of Tamin constituency, I strongly call upon the Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) to speed up the construction of this sports facility,” he said in a statement today.

The Selangau Sports Complex is planned to have features such as a football field, running track, high jump and long jump facilities, a hall, parking spaces as well as other facilities to cater to various other sports and needs. — DayakDaily
