KUCHING, Jan 31: The Tambirat Market at Asajaya is over 90 per cent completed and is expected to start operating by April.
According to a press statement from Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Dato Peter Minos today, once completed, the market can accommodate 100 stall operators, the majority of whom are currently operating along Asajaya’s main road.
āWhen the government improves and expands the main Asajaya road, the roadside traders must and have to go.
āThis is why MPKS and the Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (Irsda) took the initiative to build the market,ā he said.
He elaborated that the project could have been completed earlier had it not been for the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.
āWhen Covid-19 got its demise, MPKS chased up on urging the contractors to shape up and expedite all things. We are happy that the contractors listened to the councilās advice and warnings,ā he said.
He added that Irsda chairman Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah had supported and helped the council from day one of the project.
āHopefully, the Tambirat Market will start operations by April when the loose ends and minor details are sorted out,ā he said. ā DayakDaily
