KUCHING, June 26: The upgrading of Taman Mei Lee Recreational Park at Lorong 6A, Jalan Stakan has successfully transformed the neighbourhood green space into a safer, more vibrant, and family-friendly environment, following the completion of infrastructure works under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).
Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap officially handed back the upgraded park to the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) for future maintenance during a symbolic handover ceremony, marking the successful completion of the RM50,000 project funded under his 2025 RTP allocation.
The project, which began in January this year, was implemented by N.A.R. Contractor Works under the strict engineering supervision of MPP, ensuring compliance with safety standards and quality requirements throughout the construction period.
During his final site inspection, Yap expressed satisfaction with the completed works, noting that the upgrades have significantly revitalised the area’s recreational appeal and usability for residents of all ages.
Among the key improvements carried out were upgraded footpaths and basic amenities to support daily exercise activities, enhanced ground surfaces and clearer open spaces to improve safety for children and senior citizens, as well as refreshed landscaping designed to encourage healthier lifestyles and stronger community interaction.
“The initiative reflects the ongoing commitment of the GPS-led Sarawak government through the RTP framework to deliver small-scale but impactful infrastructure improvements that directly benefit local communities.
“Small-scale infrastructure upgrades like this park play a vital role in elevating the daily quality of life for our local residents. I am happy to see this space transformed into a safe, welcoming hub for families, children, and our elders to stay active and build a stronger neighbourhood spirit,” he said in a press release today.
Yap also extended his appreciation to the MPP engineering team for their consistent field supervision and coordination from the initial site assessment stage through to project completion.
Following the handover, routine upkeep, safety monitoring, and landscaping maintenance of the park will now officially fall under the jurisdiction of MPP. — DayakDaily
