KUCHING, Aug 4: Talented young musicians from Chung Hua Middle School (CHMS) No. 1 and other young individual musicians mesmerised a packed audience with 12 Chinese oriental music performances at the Traditional Oriental Music Concert 2024 at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Auditorium here today.
In his speech, organising chairman, MBKS Councillor Bong Siak Peng, explained that the traditional oriental music event has a special place in the hearts of many, especially those passionate about Chinese oriental music.
Bong said the annual celebration has never failed to captivate and inspire music lovers, drawing audiences who appreciate the beauty, depth, and cultural significance of traditional oriental music.
“This concert showcases a timeless art form that has the power to unite us in our shared appreciation of music,” he said.
He made these remarks before the concert was officiated at by MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.
Bong added the concert is a platform for young talents to shine.
“We are proud to provide students with the opportunity to showcase their skills, creativity, and passion. For many of these young musicians, this event serves as a stepping stone, preparing them for the international stage and helping them achieve their dreams.
“The collaboration between MBKS and Persatuan Orkestra Tradisi Oriental is something we deeply treasure. We have worked tirelessly to create more opportunities for our young talents, nurturing their growth and helping them reach their full potential,” he said.
He hoped such partnerships could continue to foster a vibrant and dynamic cultural landscape in Kuching.
“As we immerse ourselves in the enchanting melodies of traditional oriental music today, let us also take a moment to appreciate the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in making this event possible.
“May this event inspire and uplift us all, and may it continue to grow and flourish in the years to come,” he said.
Deputy MBKS Mayor Dato Zaiedi Suhaili, Organising Chairman of Kuching Festival 2024, Councillor Mok Chuang Ping, andnOriental Traditional Orchestra President Foo Shau Lung were also present. — DayakDaily
