KUCHING, Feb 26: A talk entitled ‘Taking Care of the Land: The Kenyah’s Duty’ will be held at 7.30pm on Feb 28 (Tuesday) at the Telang Usan Hotel in Kuching.

In a statement by the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC), the talk is co-hosted by the centre and Friends of Sarawak Museum (FoSM) and supported by Telang Usan Hotel.

“The talk will be delivered by a Swiss social anthropologist from the University of Bern of Switzerland, Dr Annina Aeberli, which is based on her research that investigates human relationships among the Kenyah and how this community life has always revolved around rice.

“The talk would touch on how rice structures their (Kenyah) perception of the landscape and time; on how rice builds the community and lies at the core of the traditional region,” said the statement.

It added that it is about how the community relates to the world that emerged from their farming traditions and manifested in their intrinsic duty to care for humans and non-humans.

Participants can attend the talk in person or via Zoom.
