KUCHING, Sept 28: Hawkers, traders and any businesses operating within Kuching South City Council’s (MBKS) jurisdiction have been reminded to take Covid-19 prevention and protection seriously to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the community.

Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said that MBKS was very strict when it comes to the compliance of standard operating procedures (SOP) by both business operators, employees and the public.

“Business operators including hawkers and traders in markets and hawker centres as well as customers must follow all instructions and adhere to the SOPs issued by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

“Always ensure customers and members of the public adhere to SOPs, including checking-in and checking-out of premises,” he said in a statement today after distributing face shields to hawkers at Petanak Market today.

Wee reminded that all operators should ensure that only those who have been fully vaccinated and those who have a letter of vaccination exemption can enter the premises.

On the distribution of face shields, he said the initiative was to ensure all hawkers under MBKS jurisdiction have double protection, on top of using face masks, while serving customers.

“This is one of the safety measures we want hawkers to practice. We must take Covid-19 safety and protection seriously to stop the spread of infections within the community,” he added.

Wee pointed out that fighting this disease is a joint responsibility and therefore, everyone must work together and play their role as a responsible citizen.

“Always stay alert and get updated with the latest SOPs issued by SDMC,” he urged. — DayakDaily
